Video Clip Assignment

Writing for a purpose

Take a look at these different political ads from the 2006 election for Georgia Governor:

Cathy Cox

Mark Taylor

Sonny Perdue

Examine these ads closely.  How does each candidate portray themselves and their opponents? By using ethos (credibility/authority), pathos (emotions), and logo (logic) how does each candidate appeal to voters?  Do you think that this works?

From the perspective of a candidate running for student body president, write a campaign ad.  Think about how you can use ethos, pathos, and logos to your advantage.  In your ad, address your competition and decide how you will portray them.    What are your goals if you become student body president?  Does your campaign have a slogan (see here)?  Would you pick a song to narrate your commercial (see here)?  Be sure to include these things.  If you need some more examples, visit the links from the original ads.  This assignment is to be completed individually and should be about 1 to 1 1/2 pages.   Your final copy should be edited and polished.

Technology And Stuff

14 01 2008

I’d like to think I’m pretty technologically advanced, but I guess there is always room for improvement.  For example, I never knew what RSS stood for and I figured I’d just never use anything labeled RSS.  I also never thought I’d be taking a class where I’d be blogging, for assignments!  Blogging is something that seems so simple and modern; at first I had reservations about using it in the classroom.  I didn’t really understand how it could be used as an educational tool, but it also is exciting to think I can use as a teaching tool.  I like the idea of having one central place for the class to come to for posting information and to receive information.  In this way, I can see myself using blogging as an educational tool.
I can definitely see differences in people who have grown up using technology and so-called “digital immigrants.”  I can think back as far as preschool and remember using computers to learn whereas other people haven’t had this same experience.  In the future it seems kids will be learning using computers and technology so  I might as well try to effectively learn to use my tools.

It Is Official Now…

11 01 2008

I have a blog!  This is my first real entry.  Hopefully it will flourish from here.  My first assignment for this blog is to make an entry about the readings for my class.  I do not actually have possession of my book right now.  It should be arriving any day now.  I saw a few other of the blogs I read, a.k.a. Dianna’s and Jessica’s blogs, have been updated so I figured I’d jump on the bandwagon!  I hope everyone has a great weekend, maybe my book will come!!
